EMERGING Armagh prospect Rian O’Neill has flown out to Australia for a trial with AFL side North Melbourne.

The Crossmaglen forward has enjoyed a fine underage career with the Orchard county and captained St Colman’s to this year’s MacRory Cup final, where they lost out to St Mary’s, Magherafelt.

His father Gareth handed him his club senior debut last year and he has also performed very well this term as they claimed the Senior A League title.

His older brother Oisin, part of Kieran McGeeney’s squad for this evening’s Qualifier with Kildare, has also been linked with a move to Australia.

His father, however, poured cold water on the suggestion.

“He was talking to a few guys, but he’s not going anywhere,” he said.

Tipperary youngster Jack Kennedy is also currently on trial with North Melbourne.

The Kangaroos have previously had Cavan’s Barry Reilly, Dublin’s James McCarthy and Laois’s Conor Meredith on their books, but none of those made an AFL appearance.
