THE IRISH NEWS has once again teamed up with O’Neill's Sportswear, Strathroy Dairy and St Mary’s University College to offer primary schools the chance to win one of five school coaching days.

The coaching sessions are designed by the PE department at St Mary's University College and all of the sessions will be attended by an inter-county star. All of the schools that take part in the promotion will receive a free set of 15 training bibs if they return 10 completed collector cards with the special tokens that will appear in The Irish News every day.

Irish News sports editor Thomas Hawkins says the winners of the popular competition can expect a “great day out”: “The Irish News School Coaching Days initiative just goes from strength-to-strength,” he said.

“It’s an initiative that has really caught on with the schools. They really get into the spirit of the initiative, it’s a great prize. For the five lucky winners, it is a great day out, a fun day alongside expert coaching.”

John Brolly, Irish News marketing manager, says “the schools, teachers and children” will all benefit from the coaching days: “We are delighted to partner with St Mary’s University College, O’Neill’s and Strathroy Dairy to run our school coaching days,” he said.

“The coaching sessions will provide a great day for the school children, but also offer encouragement for everyone to become involved in Gaelic games. Exercise is an important part of the day for children and the schools, teachers and children will all benefit from the high quality sessions provided by the St Mary’s coaches.”

O’Neill's Sportswear have been involved in the coaching days initiative for several years. Managing director Kieran Kennedy said the company is keen to back a scheme that promotes a healthy, active lifestyle for children.

“O’Neill's have been a partner in the Irish News Coaching Days from the outset and we greatly value this relationship,” he said.

“It is fantastic to see the children enjoy themselves, actively taking part in sport due to their own enthusiasm and initiative in entering the competition. Also, it gives the students a great opportunity to coach children in Gaelic games and help develop the stars of the future.”

Strathroy Dairy has also given its backing to the competition. Company spokesman Ruairí Cunningham said: “The Irish News coaching days are the ideal opportunity to let the children from the winning school have fun and learn about sport and the importance of a healthy lifestyle at the same time.

“Strathroy Dairy is delighted to continue its partnership and support for The Irish News school coaching days in association with St Mary’s College. Milk is a refreshing and nutritious natural product for children, especially when they are exercising.”
