IT will concern Malachy O'Rourke (right) that to beat Tyrone by a point, his team required 56 per cent possession.
Monaghan need to be much more efficient.
Against Tyrone, they lost the ball 30 times.
Inaccurate passing led to 12 turnovers. On a further eight occasions they coughed up possession in the tackle Tyrone's weakness at midfield meant Monaghan's high volume of errors went unpunished.
Interestingly, Tyrone actually won more kick-outs than Monaghan, albeit by the slender margin of 22 to 21.
But Monaghan contributed to Tyrone's high success-rate. Niall Morgan was allowed to hit nine short kick-outs to an unmarked defender. When Monaghan went man to man, and Morgan was forced to kick long, the Farney men dominated breaking ball.
With Armagh expected to employ a sweeper in their defence, Monaghan are unlikely to make the same mistake again.
