Republic of Ireland captain and Arsenal left-back Katie McCabe has been selected in the Womens Champions League team of the season.

The team was dominated by the winners Bacelona and the German Giants, Wolfsburg, with players such as Aitana Bonmati, Popp and Graham Hansen. McCabe is a part of esteemed company indeed.

She is, however, deserving of her place on this side. McCabe had stellar performances in this season's Champions League and her Arsenal side were eventually beaten in extra-time of the semi-final against the eventual finalists Wolfsburg.

McCabe is the only non-Barcelona or Wolfsburg player in the team and she was selected at left-back. Not your typical full-back, McCabe is an attacking outlet more so than a defender.

She registered 2.41 touches in the attacking penalty area and she had 3.69 shot creating actions per 90 placing McCabe in the top 4 per cent of wing-backs in Europe for attacking output.

McCabe also registered an assist in the competition highlighting her attacking ability.

If this seasons Champions League is anything to go by then McCabe will be an integral part of Ireland's World Cup squad this July.
