John Manley was a late comer to journalism, a fall back after failing to reach super stardom in his preferred career as a professional drummer.

A journalist for 16 years, having survived the late nights and two hour lunches of the Irish News business desk he was appointed Political Correspondent in 2013 .

A keen gardener and environmentalist, other hobbies include walking, geology and - despite it being entirely age inappropriate - house/techno music.

Previous winner of CIPR Business Journalist of the Year and CIPR Environmental Journalist of the Year.

No end to student accommodation rates exemption without assembly

A RATES exemption for purpose-built student accommodation that is costing the public purse millions of pounds every year will continue until either the assembly or secretary of state changes the rules, the Department of Finance has said.
