It is clear that many people have experienced considerable and enduring hardship as a result of the serious flooding which took place across Ireland last month, with Co Donegal particularly badly hit.
The fund-raising concert which was organised in Letterkenny at the weekend will hopefully provide at least some immediate practical help for the victims, including almost 50 families still left homeless in the Inishowen area.
However, it was at least equally important to send out a message of support to those facing an uncertain future and to stress that their plight will not be forgotten.
All those involved in the event, including Daniel O’Donnell, Nathan Carter and Dominic Kirwan, deserve praise for offering their services enthusiastically and at short notice to such a positive initiative.
