It is appalling that an elderly couple could be found dead in their own home after allegedly being stabbed in the course of a burglary.
A major police investigation was under way night after the bodies of the pensioners, both understood to be in their 80s, were reportedly discovered by a relative at their house in a residential area of Portadown.
Attacks on senior citizens are sadly not unknown but this was by any standards an extreme and disturbing case which will have caused widespread shock.
The thoughts and prayers of the entire community will be with their family and friends in the difficult days ahead.
