Jo Cox should be remembered with pride

The murder of the Labour MP Jo Cox in her Yorkshire constituency by the right wing extremist Thomas Mair - who was yesterday jailed for life - was an appalling crime.

Ms Cox (41), a mother of two, was an outstanding public representative and a strong Remain campaigner who was killed in brutal circumstances just a week before the EU referendum last June.

Mair, by contrast was a Nazi-obsessed loner who had well documented sympathies for Northern Ireland loyalists and claimed his grotesque actions were intended to put `Britain first.'

Ms Cox's husband, Brendan, was fully entitled to conclude yesterday that Mair's country would instead be ashamed of him and proud of his innocent victim.
