No Limerick return for Allardyce

Sam Allardyce's managerial career began in modest circumstances with Limerick FC before he became one of the biggest names in soccer and eventually clinched his dream post as coach to the English national side on an annual salary of £3m.

His term of office lasted just 67 days until he stood down after he was covertly filmed making comments to undercover reporters from the Daily Telegraph which his employers at the Football Association deemed to be unacceptable.

While Mr Allardyce claimed yesterday that he had been the victim of entrapment, the advice he offered on getting around the FA's strict rules on player transfers clearly represented extremely poor judgment on his part

However, the nature of professional sport means that he will probably find a new high profile opportunity in the near future and it can be expected that it is very unlikely to involve a return to the banks of the Shannon.
