Airport security is still needed

If reports are correct, experts examining the black boxes from a Russian aircraft which crashed after leaving an Egyptian holiday resort are becoming more and more convinced that a bomb caused the crash and the awful loss of life.

While security measures at airports can often cause annoyance among travellers these reports, if accurate, bring into sharp focus the need for the utmost care when allowing passengers and their belongings onto airplanes.

Indeed there will no doubt be an inquiry into how those responsible were able to smuggle their bomb on board the flight. Stringent security checks look like being tightened rather than relaxed in the near future. If those checks save lives they are well worth it.
