Julia Bradbury has said “Ireland has cemented its place in my heart” after exploring the country for her new travel programme.

The four-part series, titled Julia Bradbury Irish Journey, sees the presenter return to the isle where she was born to witness the landscape, culture and history on offer.

Each episode sees Bradbury explore a different region and various cities including Cork, Dublin and Derry.

Reflecting on making the show, she said: “I was born in Dublin so it’s been wonderful to explore the island of Ireland and learn more about the place of my birth.

“There is such a huge variety of things to do and explore. If historic sites like the Rock of Cashel are your thing, the history runs deep across the destination and there’s an embarrassment of riches to visit.

“I tried my hand at sea kayaking in west Cork and surfing in Donegal, and walked across a fair few stunning landscapes including treading some of the Dublin Coastal Trail and the dramatic limestone pavement of The Burren.

“From savouring the local foods to taking in vibrant cities like Derry-Derry, and celebrating the renowned music and arts scene, Ireland has cemented its place in my heart. It’s been a real gift to film this series.”

In the first episode, the TV presenter will take a trip through the south of Ireland from Tipperary to west Cork, trying her hand at kayaking and seaweed foraging along the way.

Next up she will take on Ireland’s ‘Wild’ West and up the Wild Atlantic Way, going from the rocky Burren to the hills of Connemara.

The third instalment will see her explore Dublin.

During her time there she will visit Croke Park, home of Gaelic sports, and will experience traditional Irish music and learn about why it is regarded as a great literary city.

The final episode will see Bradbury travel through Northern Ireland and the north-west corner of the Republic, experiencing everything from sailing to surfing to a seaweed bath.

The series will launch on Channel 4 on Saturday October 7 at 8.35pm and will be distributed internationally by ITV Global.
