ARTISTS including poets and musicians are to join an event hosted at Dublin's Abbey Theatre to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.

Sharing Peace, Sharing Futures, which is being held at the iconic venue on Sunday, will "celebrate a diverse set of voices and perspectives on this island" and is part of the Irish government's programme of events to commemorate the signing of the peace deal in 1998.

Dublin's Roddy Doyle and US writer Patrick Radden Keefe, author of New York Times bestselling Troubles chronicle Say Nothing, will be among guests to appear, along with poets Gail McConnell from Belfast and Co Armagh's Paul Muldoon.

Folk group Clannad will also take part in the event which will feature live music and spoken word performances, and will be available to view on the RTÉ News Channel and streamed on the RTÉ Player service.

Tánaiste Micheál Martin said the government was "delighted to partner with the Abbey Theatre to bring together a diverse set of voices from across our islands, reminding us of the rich range of perspectives, values and identities whose reconciliation was made possible by that transformative moment in April 1998.

The event's creative director Alan Gilsenan said: "In the twenty-five years since the Good Friday Agreement, artists across the whole island have conjured up things anew, inventing, questioning and reimagining in a shared space that moves us, challenges us, inspires us - but above all, includes us."
