A HOUSE party reportedly with at least 70 people was broken up at the weekend with "a significant number of fines" issued.

Gardaí who had received calls from "countless" concerned neighbours, were at first refused entry to the house at Palace Crescent in Longford Town on Friday night.

They returned shortly after 9.30pm with a warrant to search the premises under the Misuse of Drugs Act and discovered the large group of people in breach of Covid-19 regulations.

Gardai said the crowd was dispersed and "a significant number of fixed penalty notices" issued and a man in his twenties arrested at the scene under the Public Order Acts.

Other fines "will be issued" in coming days to, among others, the organiser and homeowner.
