JOURNALISTS and fans of veteran broadcaster Marian Finucane lined up at RTÉ Radio Centre to sign a book of condolence after her death.

Ms Finucane died as she took an afternoon nap at her home near Naas, Co Kildare on Thursday.

The body of the 69-year-old was reportedly discovered by her husband John Clarke.

Her sudden death has caused an outpouring of grief and tributes.

Survived by her husband and their son Jack, she had been looking forward to becoming a grandmother for the first time next month.

Her eight-year-old daughter Sinead died from leukaemia in 1990.

The Radio One host, remembered as the `voice of reason' had been absent from her weekend radio shows over Christmas, but had been due to return this weekend.

RTÉ said yesterday that today's show will be dedicated to its late host.

"The Marian Finucane Show will be presented by Rachael English on Saturday morning," a spokeswoman said.

"The two-hour programme will feature tributes from Ireland and around the world from colleagues and friends and we'll be reflecting upon some of her best moments in broadcasting.

"Brendan O'Connor will present on Sunday morning."

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar described Ms Finucane as "a true broadcasting legend who reshaped current affairs radio in Ireland", saying the country "will miss her voice (and) weekend mornings will never be the same again".

RTÉ director general Dee Forbes said she was "first and foremost a tenacious journalist with a zeal for breaking new ground".

Ms Finucane started her career with the broadcaster in the 1970s after having originally qualified as an architect.

She became a household name through her Liveline programme on RTÉ radio and more recently the eponymous early morning radio slot, `The Marian Finucane Show'.
