CANNABIS herb worth an estimated street value of €3.2 million has been found in Co Louth concealed in a consignment of fresh vegetables.

The discovery was made yesterday after gardaí intercepted a commercial haulage vehicle in Ballymascanlon, outside Dundalk.

Two men, aged 57 and 42, from Britain and Northern Ireland were arrested and held at Dundalk Garda Station on suspicion of drug trafficking.

The operation was conducted by gardaí and the National Crime Agency as part of the Cross Border Joint Agency Task Force targeting organised criminal activity.

Assistant Commissioner John O'Driscoll described it as a "very significant seizure of drugs".
