A SUSPENDED Sinn Féin TD confirmed yesterday she has resigned from the party.

Carol Nolan had been suspended by the party for three months for voting in the Dáil against holding the referendum on the eighth amendment governing the south's abortion laws.

Her suspension expires at the end of this month, but the Offaly TD yesterday told RTÉ she had decided to hand in her letter of resignation.

At the weekend, Sinn Féin delegates voted to allow its ard comhairle to agree its position on legislation for abortion.

Last month the Republic voted in favour of repealing the eighth amendment.
