AN ASSEMBLY committee has rejected a complaint by Sinn Féin MLA Megan Fearon against the DUP's Jim Wells.

The complaint was lodged following an incident on February 9 where Mr Wells appeared to confront Ms Fearon as she left the assembly chamber.

The former health minister later said he was warning her that comments she had made online had been defamatory.

The committee for standards and privileges has now concluded that the complaint is "inadmissible".

The dispute came after Ms Fearon criticised alleged sexist comments by South Down MLA Mr Wells recorded at the start of a committee meeting.

Mr Wells defended his remarks, saying they were clearly meant as a joke and were self-deprecating.
