A Co Down man has admitted having two handguns and a quantity of different types of ammunition.

At Downpatrick Crown Court, 54-year-old Owen Griffith entered guilty pleas to nine charges, all committed on November 26 last year.

Griffith, from Oakfield Walk in Donaghadee admitted having two firearms, four counts of having different types of ammunition and to having an explosive substance.

He further admitted two drug offences, possession of class B cannabis and class C diazepam, on the same date.

None of the surrounding facts were opened in court on Monday.

Following Griffith’s admissions, Judge Geoffrey Miller KC freed the defendant on continuing bail and adjourned passing sentence until  February 1.
