VIDEO footage has emerged of an arson attack in south Belfast which left a car completely destroyed.

In the security camera clip, the attacker smashes the back windows of a black Chevrolet Captiva and pours liquid accelerant into the car.

At one point, he also appears to nearly set himself alight as he sparks the flames.

A police spokesperson said the incident on the Bentham Drive area was reported around 4.35am.

"The vehicle was set alight and extensively damaged. It was reported the tyres of the vehicle were slashed during the incident," they said.

Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances, and anyone with relevant information has been asked to call 101, quoting reference 222 for October 30.
