Collision closes Co Antrim road, while two killed in weekend crashes in the Republic

EMERGENCY services have attended the scene of a road crash in Co Antrim.

The crash happened on the Glenarm Road in Larne on Sunday afternoon.

The road was closed in both directions by police as emergency responders including the Air Ambulance arrived at the scene.

A PSNI spokesperson said the road was fully reopened shortly before 5pm.

Meanwhile, two people have died following weekend crashes in the Republic.

A man in his 20s was killed in a single-vehicle collision in Waterford on Saturday night.

The crash happened on the N29 Port Road shortly after 10.30pm.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead after being taken to University Hospital Waterford.

Another occupant of the car, a man in his 20s, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

In Co Cork, a woman in her 80s was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Friday morning.

The collision involving two cars and an articulated truck happened on the N22 at Crookstown happened at around 9.30am.

The woman who died was the driver of one of the cars, and she later died of her injuries after being taken to Cork University Hospital.

A woman and a man in their 50s were also injured in the crash, and were said to be in a serious but stable condition.

A technical examination of both crash scenes was carried out by Gardaí, who have urged road users who were in either area at the times to contact them.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian is in a serious condition in Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital after being struck by a car in Navan, Co Meath.

The collision happened on the R147 Dublin Road shortly after 9.30pm on Saturday, and Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

The driver of the car was uninjured.
