University staff in Northern Ireland are set to take to the picket lines next week.

Courses at Ulster University, Stranmillis University College and St Mary's University College are all expected to be affected by the strike action, which begins on Monday.

The University and College Union (UCU) has said members at 140 universities in the UK will walkout from Monday to Friday next week.

It is understood staff at Queen's University Belfast are not involved in the strike action and it is not among the institutions named by UCU where walkouts will take place.

The strikes next week is linked to a long-running row over pay and working conditions.

The union said that most institutions across the UK will take strike action for five consecutive days  with some striking on different/additional days due to their specific local circumstances.
