Pair released following arrest over Omagh hijacking and security alert

POLICE investigating a vehicle hijacking and subsequent security alert in Omagh have released two men following questioning.

The pair, aged 41 and 57, had been arrested in Omagh under the Terrorism Act on Monday along with a third man aged 57, as part of an investigation into the incident on May 6.

A taxi driver had been ordered at gunpoint to drive to a PSNI station after an object was placed in his vehicle. The object was later declared an "elaborate hoax".

On Tuesday, the 41-year-old man was released unconditionally, while a 57-year-old was released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The other 57-year-old remained in police custody on Tuesday evening.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "The investigation continues."
