Three teens arrested after 18-year-old sustains head injuries in 'sectarian hate crime' attack

AN 18-year-old man has suffered head injuries in an attack in north Belfast that police are treating as a sectarian hate crime.

The assault happened in the Limestone Road area of the city at around 12.30am on Sunday morning, and three teenagers have been arrested.

Police said officers responded to a report of an altercation in the interface area, and upon the arrival of emergency services, the victim was taken to hospital.

A PSNI spokesperson said the victim sustained head injuries, and he remained in hospital on Sunday.

Three male teenagers - two aged 15, and a 16-year-old - were arrested in connection with the incident, and were detained on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.

The trio remained in police custody on Sunday evening.

"This assault is being investigated as a sectarian hate crime and we encourage anyone who can assist with our enquiries to get in touch with us by calling 101, and quoting reference number 57 of 06/08/23," the PSNI spokesperson said.
