Ireland’s Future, a group involved in encouraging conversation about a future united country, has announced former BBC Newsnight presenter Gavin Esler as a keynote speaker at a business lunch later this year.

Mr Esler, who presented the BBC 2 flagship news programme for 11 years until 2014, from Scotland, will speak at the lunch on November 3 at the Europa Hotel in Belfast.

The organisation staged multiple events in 2022, including a major gathering at Dublin's 3Arena in October and at the Ulster Hall the following month. There are plans for a similar event in Belfast next year.

In a paper published earlier this year outlining future plans, the group said there would be seminars aimed at young people, women, those with disabilities and from a multicultural background.

It will also seek to engage with Irish diaspora in Scotland and England and with the SNP, the organisation said.

The group said its engagements in England will include “significant figures in the British Labour Party and other political party figures who share the aims and objectives of Ireland’s Future”.
