Assault suspect back in police custody after absconding in west Belfast

AN assault suspect who absconded from custody in west Belfast while being treated for a medical issue has been located, police have said.

The 29-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent following a report of an assault in south Belfast on Tuesday morning.

Police said he absconded from custody at around 12.30pm on Tuesday and was last seen in the Dunville Park area of the Falls Road wearing handcuffs.

The public had been advised not to approach him, and to call 999 if he was spotted.

A PSNI spokesperson said later on Tuesday afternoon that the man had been located and returned to custody, adding: "Police would like to thank the public for their assistance."
