POLICE have launched an investigation after five vehicles were torched in an arson attack in Carrickfergus in the early hours of Sunday.
Three vans and two cars were set alight at the Barn Mills apartment complex in the Taylors Avenue area.
Police said they were alerted to a number of vehicles being on fire in the area at around 3.40am on Sunday.
A PSNI spokesperson confirmed the Fire Service attended the scene, but said four of the vehicles were completed burnt out.
One of the cars suffered scorch damage
Historically a hub for Carrickfergus’ spinning and cloth industry, the extensive buildings were converted into a modern residential development in recent years.
All the vehicles targeted were in the resident’s parking area of the Barn Mills scheme.
The crime scene is a short distance from the site of an October 2022 arson in the town, where three vehicles were torched on North Road in an early morning attack.
In a statement, the PSNI said: “Our enquiries to establish the circumstances of this incident, which we are treating as arson, are ongoing, and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, and witnessed any suspicious activity, or who has any information which may assist us, to get in touch.
