A teenage Alliance Party candidate has been elected just days before he's due to sit his A-level Politics exam.

Lewis Boyle was elected to Antrim and Newtownabbey Council on Friday night on the fifth and final count.

He will be the sole Alliance representative in the Ballyclare DEA.

The 18-year-old, who is thought to be the north's youngest elected representative, is due to sit his Politics A-level in 10 days time.

Following his election, the teenager, who is a pupil at Rainey Endowed in Magherafelt, urged more young people to get involved in politics.
