A Co Down man who died suddenly in Australia has been remembered as a "great character".

The funeral of Liam Curran, who was originally from Ardglass, is due to take place on Tuesday.

A death notice said Mr Curran, believed to be aged in his thirties, had died suddenly in Australia. It is understood he passed away in Melbourne on April 15.

Tributes have been posted on social media with his brother Niall thanking those who had helped the family since Mr Curran's death.

"A big thank you my family and friends, to all of Liams friends in Australia and the Kevin Bell charity," he wrote on Facebook.

"All your help for our family the past three weeks has been immeasurable.

"Thank you all so much."

Many messages posted said Mr Curran's death was "devastating".

One woman said she had "great memories with Liam growing up", while another added that he was a "great character".

Another friend said he would be remembered for the "cheeky wee smile on his face".

Requiem Mass is due to take place on Tuesday in St Nicholas's Church at 2pm followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.
