A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a crash in Co Derry, police have confirmed.

The single-vehicle collision happened at Lisnamuck Road in the Tobermore area shortly before 5pm on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to the scene, including an ambulance crew and the Charity Air Ambulance.

A spokesperson for the NI Ambulance Service said: "Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, no patients were taken to hospital."

Police confirmed on Thursday night that the male motorcyclist had died of his injuries.

“Officers attended alongside colleagues from other emergency services. Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene," a PSNI spokesperson said, adding that the Lisnamuck Road remained closed with diversions in place.

“A full investigation is currently underway and anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage, is asked to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 1531 of 04/05/23," the spokesperson added.

Sinn Féin councillor for the Moyola area, Ian Milne, said: "This is tragic news for the community and my thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this difficult time."
