SECURITY vehicles to accompany US President Joe Biden have arrived in the north ahead of his visit this month to mark the 25th anniverary of the Good Friday Agreement.

Mr Biden is due to arrive in Belfast on April 11, with an engagement in the city the following day before making his way south, and flying out of Dublin three days later.

Ahead of his arrival, a US Air Force jet has ferried a fleet of security vehicles to be used by the President and his entourage in travelling across the island.

Footage of the high-tech motors arriving at Belfast International Airport was posted to the CobraEmergency YouTube channel, which archives footage of security and military operations involving vehicles.

Among the fleet now stationed in Belfast ahead of Mr Biden's arrival next Tuesday is a black Ford F-350 Super Duty SUV codenamed 'Roadrunner' by the US Secret Service.

The vehicle is used by the White House Communications Agency to ensure the president is able to make secure phone calls with US military chiefs in the event of an emergency

The satellite dome antenna on the roof of the SUV, formally known as a 'Sensitive Compartmentalised Information Facility' ensures private calls can be made securely to the Pentagon and White House if required.

The armoured vehicle also utilises sophisticated radar systems to detect incoming projectiles or unmanned drones, and run-flat tyres allowing it to keep moving in the event of a puncture.

A bullet-proof presidential limo, dubbed 'The Beast', is also expected to arrive in the north to ferry Mr Biden during his Irish visit.

The president confirmed his trip last month to mark the Good Friday Agreement anniversary, following a formal invitation by UK prime minister Rishi Sunak.

Along with Belfast and Dublin, Mr Biden is expected to visit Ballina in Co Mayo, home to his great, great grandfather, Edward Blewitt.

Mr Biden last visited the town in 2016 during a visit as US vice-president.
