AN Eritrean national has appeared before Derry Magistrate's Court charged with sexually assaulting a woman in the city.

Weldu Feshazion (31) of Argyle Street in Derry appeared with an interpreter to face one charge of sexual assault on a female on March 26.

A police officer said he could connect the accused to the charges.

The alleged assault is believed to have taken place in a night spot in the city.

Defence counsel Grainne McAnaney said that there was no suitable address available for the defendant so there would be no bail application at this time.

The defendant was remanded into custody to appear again on April 20.
