A police officer in Armagh has been injured after a driver hit them with their vehicle while trying to escape arrest.

The incident happened in the Lonsdale Road area in the early hours of Monday morning, after reports a white Citroën Berlingo failed to stop.

Inspector Gary McCullough said: “Officers then attended an address in the Keady area to conduct further enquiries. The Berlingo vehicle was located in the area and a stinger device was deployed. As the suspect fled the scene an officer was struck by the wing

mirror of the vehicle that was last sighted travelling in the direction of the Keady Road."

A 32-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of a number of driving offences including dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

He remains in custody while the police officer was taken to Craigavon Hospital for treatment to their injuries which are not life-threatening.

Police have called for any witnesses or those with dashcam footage to call 101, quoting reference 105 for March 6. Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
