A SECURITY alert in Co Derry is understood to be linked to a bomb threat.

It is understood a republican group claimed that a device had been left in the Feeny Road area near Dungiven.

Sinn Féin councillor Sean McGlinchey said: "This is not welcome in the area and I hope it is resolved soon."

Police said they were in attendance at a security alert at Feeny Road.

The road was closed and local traffic diversions were put in place.

A spokesman for the PSNI said: "We thank the public for their patience at this time and will provide an update in due course."

It is understood police intend to resume their search of the area on Friday.
