A man and a woman were arrested yesterday following the discovery of two cannabis factories in Co Down.

Police were alerted to a disturbance in the Kilinamurry Road near Katesbridge around 9.25am, which led to the discovery of a suspected cannabis factory in a property.

Shortly after 11am, a second suspected factory was then found at a property in the Links area of Strangford.

Both properties contained cannabis plants, cannabis and other suspected Class B controlled drugs.

Inspector Gary McCullough said that a man (36) and woman (50) were arrested on suspicion of related offences, with both released on bail to allow for police to conduct further enquiries.

“We are committed to tackling the illegal supply and use of drugs, and will continue to investigate those who profit from the consequent misery and harm," he said.

“Our investigation is ongoing and I would ask any member of the public who has any information which could be of assistance to police to contact the police on non-emergency number 101.

“Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
