A BODY recovered from a beach in Co Down has been identified as the person who went missing from the Stena Line ferry last month.

The remains were found in the Farmhill Road area of Holywood on Thursday.

Last night, Belfast Harbour Police confirmed the body had been identified as a person who went missing in Belfast Lough on Saturday, October 29.

A major search operation was launched after a man was reported to have gone overboard off the Stena Line ferry from Cairnryan to Belfast at about 9.30pm.

The alarm was raised by a fellow passenger, with the ferry’s own fast rescue craft deployed.

Emergency crews were dispatched from the Coastguard, Lagan Search and Rescue and the RNLI.

Belfast Harbour Police said they were unable to provide further details "at this time."
