A FORMER Queen's University academic and policing expert has been remembered as a "wonderful person" and committed campaigner by colleagues following her death.

Dr Vicky Conway previously held a position at Queen's before becoming Associate Professor of Law in 2017 at Dublin City University (DCU).

Her death was announced yesterday in a statement by DCU's School of Law and Government.

"We are terribly sad to have to share the passing of our colleague Vicky Conway. She was a wonderful person, wise and kind, and we will miss her," a spokesperson said.

A graduate of University College Cork, Dr Conway was a former member of the Republic's Policing Authority, established to analyse perceptions of policing among Ireland's minority communities.

She lent her expertise to the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland, and brought her knowledge of the subject to a wider audience through hosting the Policed in Ireland podcast.

The podcast focussed on how "communities and individuals experience policing, both good and bad" and offered "expert opinion and context to these stories".

Dr Conway was also a prominent voice during the campaign to repeal the Republic's abortion laws and was a member of the Lawyers for Choice group.

A spokesperson for the group said in a social media post yesterday: "Ireland’s reproductive justice community is forever lessened for her loss," adding that she was a "fighter and an intellect in our cause".
