THE Ambulance Service will put on extra crews today as tens of thousands of loyal order members and spectators parade in Belfast.

UP to 25,000 loyal order members are expected to parade from Stormont at 1pm.

The Orange Order parade, which will feature 130 bands and around 60,000 spectators, will head down Newtownards Road in the east of the city, over Queen's Bridge and on to Belfast City Hall.

The march was due to take place last year but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Several businesses in Belfast city centre, including the Victoria Square and CastleCourt shopping centres, are to close early today.

A spokesman for the Ambulance Service said it has worked to ensure crews can still get to patients.

"We are putting on a number of extra crews and enlisting the help of the voluntary St John Ambulance and some private ambulance services to make sure there is enough cover in and around the area," he said.

"We are also working very closely with the PSNI to be kept abreast of any changes in routes that may be required for access and egress calls."
