BARRISTERS have run their way to raising more than £16,000 to help deaf children and young people.

Members of the Bar Library of Northern Ireland came together last week to participate in the Belfast City Marathon in aid of Action Deaf Youth.

The charity works to improve the quality of life for young deaf people offering a range of mentoring, training and volunteer services for deaf children and their families.

As the Bar's chosen charity of the year, a total of 55 barristers made up 11 relay teams in the marathon on May 1 raising over £16,000.

Caroline Doherty, director of Action Deaf Youth, said: "We are amazed that 55 runners from the Bar gave up their Sunday to raise funds for us.

"As a small charity we are deeply grateful for the fantastic amount of money raised.

"This will help us to continue to deliver well-being sessions for our deaf children and young people and their families in Northern Ireland.

"A huge thank you to everyone who supported us."
