A NEW mural of the late Nobel Laureate John Hume has been painted in his home city.
The mural was created on the gable wall of a building on Great James Street, close to Derry city centre.
It features an image of Mr Hume as a young man, under the slogan 'peace'.
The former SDLP leader, who died in August 2020, campaigned for civil rights for decades and was a key signatory of the Good Friday Agreement.
He was awarded a Nobel prize in 1998 alongside then Ulster Unionist leader David Trimble.
A mural artist who works under the name Peaball created the striking artwork.
The mural comes following news that Mr Hume's life is to be portrayed in a new musical drama to be premiered on Good Friday next year.
Beyond Belief – the life and mission of John Hume will be launched next year to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement.
Written by Damian Gorman with music by composer Brian O’Doherty, the work will be staged by The Playhouse in Derry.
