POLICE in west Belfast are appealing for information after a shot was fired at the front door of a house.

A male resident of the house in Shaws Park was uninjured following the attack at around 9.30pm on Monday night, a PSNI spokesperson said.

The resident heard a "loud bang" and upon investigating found a small hole in their front door.

A suspected bullet fragment was found by the occupant.

The PSNI spokesperson said a man was observed running away from the property following the incident.

"Our investigation is underway and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this incident, or who may have captured CCTV or dash cam footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 1793 04/04/22," the spokesperson added.

West Belfast Sinn Féin councillor Áine McCabe told The Irish News that such attacks were "unwarranted and unwanted" in the local community.

"Thankfully no-one was injured in this horrendous attack, but it could have been much worse news facing us," she said.

"It's outrageous that we are seeing such incidents in this day and age and it is to be condemned outright in the strongest possible terms. I would urge anyone with information about this to please pass it on to police."
