GAA players with "1970s hairstyles" are being sought to appear in an action movie alongside Liam Neeson.

Filming for The Land of Saints and Sinners is set to get underway in Donegal later this month with casting agents on the look-out for people to feature in a GAA game.

Ballymena-born actor Neeson (69) stars in the movie as a newly retired assassin who finds himself drawn into a lethal game of cat and mouse with a trio of vengeful terrorists.

Set in a remote Irish village, the film will also feature well-known Belfast-born actor and Neeson's lifelong friend Ciarán Hinds, who is known for roles in movies including Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and recently Sir Kenneth Branagh's movie, Belfast.

But ahead of the start of filming, which is due to last for two months, and casting agents are searching for film extras to take part in scenes featuring a GAA game.

They have appealed for GAA players - men and women - to apply, but there are certain haircut requirements stipulated.

A spokesperson for movieextras.ie said: "What we are looking for is 1970s hairstyles (sideburns, moustaches, beards and longer hairstyles all welcome), GAA players, men and women of all ages, good availability (continuity roles will require multiple shoot days)".

It has been reported that filming will take place in the Killybegs area of Donegal and its surrounding areas including Glencolmcille.

The film will also see Neeson reunite with Robert Lorenz, director of The Marksman, which topped the US box office.
