Eight further people who had previously tested positive for Covid-19 have died in Northern Ireland, the Department of Health has said.

It takes the total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 3,094.

Another 3,737 confirmed cases of the virus have also been notified in the last 24-hour reporting period.

This morning, there were 363 Covid-19 inpatients in hospital, 22 of whom were being treated in ICU. Of these, 18 are on ventilation.

There are 10 unoccupied beds in the north's ICU units.

Hospitals are over capacity by 187 beds.

Today's figures were released after the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) revealed its total for coronavirus-linked fatalities has now reached 4,142.

The Nisra figure is drawn from different data sources and is always higher than the Department of Health’s total, as it provides a broader picture of the impact of Covid-19.
