A GROUP representing loyalist paramilitary groups is to give evidence to MPs about the Northern Ireland Protocol.

The Loyalist Communities Council (LCC), which represents the UVF, UDA and Red Hand Commando, will speak to members of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee at Westminster on Wednesday.

The group's chairman, David Campbell, will give evidence along with members Denis Cunningham, Winston Irvine and Jim Wilson.

The LCC announced in March it was withdrawing its support for the Good Friday Agreement amid unionist anger over the Brexit protocol arrangements.

In a letter to British prime minister Boris Johnson, Mr Campbell warned the LCC was "withdrawing support for the Belfast Agreement and its institutions until our rights under the agreement are restored".

Since Easter, loyalists have staged protests against the protocol - which has effectively created a post-Brexit border in the Irish Sea - and the policing of veteran republican Bobby Storey's funeral last year.

Some of the protests led to riots in several areas including Belfast, Derry and Newtownabbey.

Protests were paused following the death of Prince Philip but later resumed.

Last month, Mr Campbell and former NI Ukip leader David McNarry held a small protest outside Irish government offices in Belfast city centre over the protocol.

However, the pair were confronted by Gareth McCord whose brother Raymond was beaten to death by a UVF gang in 1997.
