Police investigating appearance of 'drug dealers beware' banner in Co Tyrone

POLICE are investigating the appearance of a banner in Co Tyrone, which warns "drug dealers beware".

The large banner was placed on the railings of a building in the Dungannon Road area of Coalisland. It is believed it was erected overnight on Wednesday.

It states: "Drugs kill. Death dealers beware. We don't warn, we remove" and features images of masked gunmen standing over a man on the ground.

There are also pictures of drugs on the banner and another warning, which states "drug dealers beware".

Police last night said "enquiries" into the erection of the banner are being carried out.

SDLP councillor Malachy Quinn said the banner had been placed on the railings of what is known locally as "the old bank building" in the town.

"I believe it must have been put up overnight or very early this morning (Wednesday)," he said.

"It has been placed right in the centre of Coalisland - it has clearly been put there to get a message across. It has obviously been put up to send a message out.

"Drugs are quite prevalent in this area, but no more than they are in other towns around the place.

The police have also had much success in seizing drugs and uncovering operations in the area in recent months.

"I know people are frustrated by the drugs problems but violence does not solve anything."

A PSNI spokesman last night said: "Police are aware of a banner erected at the Dungannon Road area of Coalisland and enquiries are ongoing".
