RTÉ is making a new documentary on the centenary of the formation of Northern Ireland.

Presenter Miriam O'Callaghan will host the documentary, which will look at how the north was created in 1921.

The journalist tweeted a photo of herself and her production team at Stormont in Belfast yesterday.

Ms O'Callaghan is the state broadcaster's most high profile presenter and has been tipped as a future Irish president.

Official events to mark the centenary this year have proved controversial.

Nationalists and republicans declined to take part in an official forum which is looking at ways to mark the anniversary.

The SDLP has already said it will hold its "own events" to mark the centenary.

Sinn Féin deputy leader Michelle O'Neill said republicans will not honour the creation of a state built on religious discrimination.

But DUP leader Arlene Foster said any events could be held in an inclusive fashion which did not cause offence.
