A HOUSING association is supporting children's remote learning by providing refurbished tablet computers.

While some year groups are back in classes, pupils from P4 through to Year 11 continue to study from home.

Choice Housing has been helping its colleagues by offering iPads to facilitate home-schooling.

As part of an organisation wide ICT upgrade, devices that would have otherwise been decommissioned were set aside.

"Following ongoing engagement with our staff it was clear that many of our team who were working from home were struggling to balance remote working with the demands of home schooling and a big part of that was the availability of technology," said Lawrence Jackson, Choice Group Director of Corporate Services.

"We are committed to supporting our colleagues in any way we can during this challenging period and, following our ICT upgrade, it made absolute sense to make these iPads available to those who really needed them."

Choice scheme coordinator for Carn Court in Fermanagh, Deirdre Boylan was among those who took up the offer.

She said the uninterrupted access to technology would ensure her daughter's home schooling did not fall behind at a crucial time in her educational development.

"We have only had the Apple iPad a couple of weeks and already I can see how this additional device has impacted in a positive way on my daughter and myself. She can continue with her home schooling in line with her remote learning timetable and I can use the computer rather than my mobile phone to keep on top of my own workload," she said.
