Another three people have died after contracting Covid-19, the Department of Health has confirmed.

The death toll recorded by the department since the pandemic began now stands at 2,066.

163 new cases of the virus have been recorded in the past day after 1,669 individuals were tested.

In hospitals, there are 257 patients with coronavirus currently being treated, down from 307 yesterday.

There are 29 patients in intensive care with 27 on ventilators.

The number of care homes dealing with active outbreaks of coronavirus is currently 20.

The figures were released after Health Minister Robin Swann said the Nightingale facility at Belfast City Hospital has been "prioritised for de-escalation".

Robin Swann said as the pressures from the latest wave of the coronavirus pandemic reduce, the health service will look to rebuild elective care services.

In the Republic, another 39 people have died with Covid-19 and a further 462 infections have been confirmed.
