Another person has died after testing postive for Covid-19 in Northern Ireland, the Department of Health has said.

It brings the total number of deaths to 563.

A further 77 people tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the total number since the pandemic began to 7,422.

In the past seven days, the Department of Health has recorded 467 new cases of coronavirus.

There are 22 patients in hospital who have tested positive for Covid-19, three of whom have been ventilated in intensive care.

In care homes, there are 21 outbreaks and a further five suspected outbreaks.

Of the 467 positive tests in the past week, 307 were taken from people aged between 20 and 59.

Yesterday Health Minister Robin Swann confirmed a second Nightingale facility will open at Whiteabbey Hospital.

The "step-down facility" will have 100 intermediate care beds and is being opened in preparation for a potential Covid-19 surge, he added.

Mr Swann said he believes could be “another full scale assault" by the virus this winter.
