Coronavirus: 43 new cases and 11 active clusters in Northern Ireland

Another 43 cases of cornonavirus have been recorded in Northern Ireland in the past 24 hours, the Department of Health has said.

It compares with 10 cases identified in yesterday's daily update.

The death toll from Covid-19 remains unchanged from yesterday at 556.

Since contact tracing began in May, 23 coronavirus clusters have been identified in Northern Ireland.

Of these clusters, 11 remain open and 168 cases of the virus have been associated with them.

A cluster is defined as two or more cases associated by a key setting such as a workplace, retail  premises or domestic gathering, with illness onset dates within a 14 day period

Nine clusters have had five or more cases associated with them.

Of these clusters, four were in the Newry, Mourne and Down Council area, three in Mid and East Antrim, one in Ards and North Down and one in Causeway Coast and Glens.

In the north's hospitals, there are currently two patients in intensive care units.

There are three active outbreaks of the virus in care homes.
