POLICE investigating the murder of Dublin gangster Robbie Lawlor, returned to the scene of the shooting in north Belfast yesterday to carry out further searches.

The 36-year-old was shot dead outside a house in Etna Drive in Ardoyne at around 11.50am on Saturday April 4.

Police have conducted several searches of the house, which has been boarded up since the shooting.

It is believed Lawlor, who was under threat from a number of Dublin gangland rivals, had been staying in Belfast for sometime prior to his death.

The son of a murdered dissident republican and an Ardoyne man who was an eye witness to the shooting were arrested and later released in connection with the attack.

Two men and a teenager from Limerick were also arrested and released without charge.

Lawlor, who is thought to have ordered the savage murder of teenager Keane Mulready Wood earlier this year, had dealings with a number of Belfast criminals who are now also under threat from gang members loyal to the gangster.

The 36-year-old was shot at close range as he tried to flee the house after a gunman entered and left via the rear of the property.

Detectives believe those responsible had local knowledge of the area.

A PSNI forensic team yesterday conducted a further search of the house and garden.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said a number of items were seized and have been taken away for examination.

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Montgomery from PSNI's Major Investigation Team said: "We continue to appeal for information about this horrific and callous murder, carried out in close range and in broad daylight.

“If anyone in the area captured any footage of the incident please make that available to us also. It can be uploaded on the Major Incident Public Portal at https://mipp.police.uk/operation/PSNI20P04-PO1.

“And information can be provided to police on 101, the incident room on 02890 2595422, or anonymously through the Crime Stoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
